On Friday, September 24, 2021, 19-year-old Miya Marcano, a student at Valencia College, was scheduled to fly from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale to visit her family, but she never boarded the plane. She was reported missing by her parents after she failed to respond to texts or calls.
When officers arrived to conduct a welfare check at the Arden Villas Luxury Apartments in Orlando where Miya both lived and worked, they found signs of a struggle and blood on a pillow. Miya was nowhere to be found.
Miya worked in the leasing office at Arden Villas. Her shift ended at 5 pm and an investigation showed that 27-year-old Armando Manuel Caballero, the maintenance worker, entered her apartment without her permission using the master key fob at 4:30 pm. He was likely lying in wait for Miya’s return.
Armando was allegedly captured on surveillance footage early the next morning, exiting his vehicle carrying gloves and a pink blanket.
Prior to her disappearance, Miya had complained about Armando’s excessive texting and frequent sexual advances. He was romantically interested in Miya, but she did not reciprocate and when she asked him to stop, he refused.
On Monday, September 27, maintenance workers at Sabal Club Apartments in Longwood stumbled upon Armando’s body. He committed suicide just hours before officers were about to execute a warrant for his arrest. He was the main suspect in Miya’s disappearance. Sadly, her whereabouts may have died with him.
Miya was last seen wearing jeans, a red t-shirt, and a black hoodie. Anyone with information on her whereabouts can call the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at 407–836–4357.
