A man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend. On Jan 24, 2019, 31-year-old transient Jordan Henry strangled 40-year-old Elizabeth Bockholt in his Wingate hotel room in Sioux City. Henry then set the room on fire to hide the evidence and fled.

Eyewitnesses including other hotel guests and employees reported seeing Henry running from the hotel as soon as the fire began to erupt. Firefighters arrived on the scene and found Bockholt in the hotel room unresponsive. She was declared deceased later in the hospital.

Henry was quickly arrested and charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of arson. The murder charge was later amended to second-degree. Henry's defence argues long-term drug use and existing mental health issues resulted in a 'psychotic break' resulting in Bockholt's death. Sources say Henry had meth in his system for several hours following the murder.

Henry was convicted of the charges in November of 2020. 27 witnesses testified at the trial including Henry's aunt Sheri Jones. Jones testified that her nephew, who was homeless at the time, had come to her on January 23, 2019, looking for a place to stay. Jones and her husband decided to check Henry into the Wingate hotel because they did not feel comfortable with him in their home due to his mental health issues, specifically paranoia that he was being watched.

Henry has been a heavy drug user since the age of fifteen and records show he had been hospitalized many times in the past due to Methamphetamine Psychosis. UCLA clinical psychologist Dr. Suzette Glasner testified she believes Henry could have been experiencing Methamphetamine Psychosis during the murder.

Jordan Henry was sentenced to 75 years in prison on January 14, 2021. The sentence consists of 50 years for second-degree murder and 25 years for arson to be served consecutively.
