3 of the Most Shocking Florida Man Stories I’ve Ever Read (So Far)

Welcome to FloridaDonkeyHotey on Flickr.com

I’m not sure why I’m on a Florida kick lately, but I’m here for it. Honestly, living in Florida, it’s kind of a given. If there isn’t a new “ Florida Man” story in the news at least 4-5 times a week, I feel like we’d all think the apocalypse is coming. Now that I’ve lived in Orlando for a year, I’m realizing that Florida Man discussions and news are as much a part of Florida life as the massive storm outside right now that popped up out of nowhere even though we had one like, a week ago.

And so is sharing in the enjoyment (or shock and rage) of these Florida Man stories. So without further ado, let’s get to it.

1. The Florida Man who would (allegedly) do anything to get his Starbucks cream cheese

So there’s a reason this particular story is top of the list. I used to manage a Starbucks, and know exactly how people can get over their cream cheese. Like, it’s unreal. Having had to dodge a flying cup of boiling hot coffee, I feel for these partners so much. But even without a personal connection, this story is by far the biggest mouth dropper, and I’ve read a lot of Florida Man stories.

If you haven’t heard the story, in June of 2021, a very disgruntled Florida man in Miami Gardens pulled a gun on an innocent Starbucks partner when they “messed up his order”

The young girl simply asked the man if he’d paid for the cream cheese, and that’s when he “waved a gun at her”. Allegedly.

Even though the man got his cream cheese, unfortunately for him, the partner he threatened was the police chief’s daughter.

2. There's this resourceful head-turning Florida Man

When I saw this story on Twitter my jaw, indeed, dropped. You cannot say that you wouldn't be completely perplexed if you saw this fine Florida gentleman flying down the road using a leaf blower to propel himself.

According to the NY Post, this amazing man is none other than Brian Edwards Kahrs, who caught the attention of news outlets and pedestrians with his "blue-collar limousine", a mop bucket, leaf blower, and umbrella.

To make this even more amazing, Mr. Kahrs, a janitor by trade, posts on Facebook about his adventures, writing lines like:

“Nothing like taking a cruise along Clearwater Beach after a long night of mopping floors and scrubbing toilets."

I'm obsessed with this man.

3. Florida Mom and daughter are arrested for rigging homecoming

Full disclosure: I went through a very long list of Florida Man stories, not even including the ones I’ve already heard. None of them jumped out at me like this one. Not only is it a fun Florida WOMAN story, but it’s a tag team effort, AND a high school scandal with the ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL? If this is not an expression of shock I’m feeling on my face, I don’t know what is.

A Pensacola mother/daughter duo were arrested after Laura Rose Carroll, the (then) assistant Principal at Tate High School, abused the electronic record system and rigged the homecoming election so her daughter would earn the crown.

I do have to say, though, that I’m chucking because once little Becky (they didn’t disclose the kids name) won everyone said, “nah. Rigged.”

Ms. Carroll and her daughter were charged with several serious crimes: including offense against users of computer, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.

I hope they both now know winning homecoming was DEFINITELY not worth it.
