I can't handle stories like these. Horrible things happening to adults is bad enough, but when innocence is involved, it's a special kind of pain.
27-year-old Joana Peca was found dead Saturday after St. Petersburg police received a call drawing them to the terrible scene around 5:30 p.m., according to the St. Petersburg Police Department. Sandra Bentil, a spokeswoman for the Police Department told news outlets when officers showed up they'd found Ms. Peca ""deceased inside her vehicle, suffering from what appears to be an apparent gunshot wound."
Ms. Peca's children, who were also in the car and watched her die, were "unharmed but terrified".
I can imagine so. My heart breaks for Joana. She was far too young and simply trying to take care of her children, who are now scarred for life because some selfish person decided to rob her of life and ruin others that hadn't even started.
The investigation is ongoing and the suspect is still on the loose, so there's no saying what lead to this terrible outcome, but if you ask me, I can't think of any situations this was just. None. Ms. Peca, I'm so sorry. And for your beautiful children, I am heartbroken.
I believe Ms. Bentil said it best when she gave her statement on the tragedy:
"Two young children tonight are going to go to bed without their mother, and we would really like to get justice for those who are responsible, the person or the people who are responsible for her death."
Justice absolutely needs to be served, and Ms. Bentil and the St. Petersburg police need our help in finding the suspect, who is still at large. Anyone that has info about the shooting are urged to call St. Petersburg police at 727-893-7780.
I for one can't wait to see this person behind bars. R.I.P. Joana.
