I love all the cannabis positivity around Virginia lately! Now that recreational marijuana possession (with restrictions) is legal in Virginia, state Senator Louise Lucas isn't wasting any time providing products for cannabis enthusiasts.

According to news sources and the Cannabis Outlet Facebook page, they opened two locations, though the Norfolk location is still marked as "the CBD Shoppe" on their official Facebook minus the title.

  • 345 Granby Street in Norfolk, VA
  • 1215 High Street in Portsmouth, VA

A grand opening party was held at the Portsmouth location on July 1 in celebration of this historical move.

However, the Cannabis Outlet is not a marijuana dispensary. The sale of recreational cannabis will not be legal until 2024. Currently, the law says, "adults 21 and older may legally possess up to one ounce of marijuana and can grow up to four plants per household."

If you're looking to hit up a dispensary, there are a few medical marijuana dispensaries in Virginia (the closest to Virginia Beach would be Gleaf Dispensary @ 2804 Decatur St BLDG 30, Richmond, VA 23224). You need to be a registered medical marijuana patient in Virginia, though.

So what can you expect from the Cannabis Outlet? Here you can purchase various CBD and hemp products. Tons of people showed up to the store during it's grand opening, which was built by CJ Upton. CJ is no stranger to the cannabis biz, having created "the CBD Shoppe" in Norfolk's Macarthur Mall many years ago after he realized how cannabis can help people.

“My mom was recovering from cancer at the time,” he said. “She didn’t have good mobility of her hip, pelvis. My father had chronic back pain.”

State senator Louise Lucas has also jumped on board as co-owner.

“Black and brown people are more likely than white people to get locked up for use of marijuana and get criminal records,” she said. “We want to make it such that we don’t have to worry about looking over our shoulders because you got one ounce of recreational marijuana.”

I think this is an amazing step in the right direction for Virginian cannabis enthusiasts, and I can't wait to see what the future brings. What are your thoughts?
