One of the getaways I've been dying to take while in Virginia is to take a night or two and drive up to Hobbit's Dream in Fairfield, VA, twelve miles north of Lexington.
I have been a massive LOTR fan since I was a kid, so you best believe when I heard about this incredible opportunity to transport myself to the Shire right here in Virginia for a reasonable price, I was all over it. Sadly, I have not had the chance to take the trip considering current COVID-19 regulations, but you bet I did the research for me and you both.
The owners of Hobbit's Dream, Randy and Linda Holland, who've lived in Rockbridge County all their lives, decided to open up the adorable Airbnb in April of 2018. Hobbit's Dream is described as "a real-life hobbit hole on their farm in Fairfield, Virginia."
The Hobbit's Dream Airbnb listing, where you can go to get even more information and even book a room for $257.00 a night, has a five-star rating and 578 reviews.
Once you step inside your earth house at Hobbit's Dream, you'll be transported straight to the Shire. I mean, look at all the hobbit-like details. (The provided photos are courtesy of Randy and Linda Holland and are a sample of the many stunning photographs that can be found on the Airbnb listing).
Can you imagine sitting by the fire and reading a book in this quaint living room?
All the comforts a modern hobbit needs!
Go on a hike along the Blue Ridge Mountains and pretend you're headed to Mirkwood Forest!
If you really want to get a full taste of the experience to stash in your daydream bank, here's a video of the scenery and lodgings:
I don't know about you, but as soon as I can, I'm heading to Fairfield. Would you book a stay at Hobbit's Dream?
