Can you believe people travel from all over the world to visit Ohio?
One international travel destination in Ohio is the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Hall of Fame for professional American football players is located in Canton Ohio. With great demand of the people of Canton,Ohio and other factors the Hall of Fame opened on September 7, 1963 (You can visit their web page to get the complete history).
The driving distance from major cities in Ohio are on average 2/2.5 hrs to a little over 3. Cleveland, Ohio is only a one hour drive. So why don't Ohioans travel to this international destination? (Besides not being a fan of football, I feel you there) Because it's right in our own backyard. It's there and one day we'll go. Maybe vacations further away hold greater appeal. I mean it's not Miami Beach or Paris.
As we were researching a day trip vacation this past summer, I was shocked it was so close to home. We traveled to Canton, two weeks after the class of eight inductees 2021. The museum can be really congested during the ceremony. It is said to be the only time to get a large amount of Hall of Famers in one spot. No wonder everyone wants to be there!
Upon arrival , we did have difficulties finding where to park and the entrance; because of all the construction. After about 5 minutes we found the parking lots for the museum. And parked very close to entrance. Construction on the pro football Hall of Fame village began in 2015-2016. Construction slowed down because of COVID-19, putting a little strain on finances and labor. The Tom Benson Hall of Fame stadium has been completed and things are on their way for phase II and III.
The vision for the $900 million village can be overwhelming, but since our visit last year things are still moving along. With additional attractions, including the 125 ft. I-X ferris wheel being moved from Cleveland, Ohio to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and an indoor water park being added.
I see this as the Pro Football Hall of Fame being a family travel destination in the future. Once the hotels and restaurants are open in the Village, there will be something for everyone!
Let's not forget what's right in your own backyard!
