Austin TX,

With the Texas race for Governor being set earlier this month in the primary elections, incumbent Greg Abbott (R) is now ready to face Democratic challenger Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke in the November general election. This will be one of the most high-profile Texas races in years, and both candidates are already starting to ramp up their campaigns.

Abbott is a Texas native that has been serving as Governor since 2015. He is a strong conservative Republican that has been a big supporter of former President Donald Trump. Abbott has emphasized that he wants to continue his work in Texas to make it an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.

O'Rourke, is not a newcomer to Texas politics. He was first elected to the US House of Representatives in 2012, representing El Paso. He lost a high-profile Senate race in 2018 to Texas incumbent Ted Cruz, followed by a short-lived presidential run in 2020. Now he is back and ready to take on Abbott in the Texas Governor's race.

O'Rourke is a progressive Democrat who has run his campaigns on a platform of expanding access to healthcare, increasing funding for public education, and reforming the criminal justice system. During the 2022 run for Governor, O'Rourke has taken aim at Abbott over the Texas power grid, which has been plagued with blackouts in recent years.

"No Texan should have to go without power, especially when Texas is the richest state in the nation," said O'Rourke in a statement. "We can do better, and I will make sure that Texas has the best, most reliable power grid in the country."

O'Rourke has also been critical of what he calls Abbott's close ties to big businesses that have received tax breaks and other incentives from the state government.

"Governor Abbott has let Texas businesses off the hook while Texas families are struggling," said O'Rourke. "I will put an end to this corporate favoritism and make sure that Texas businesses pay their fair share."

Conversely, Governor Abbott has criticized O'Rourke's record regarding border security.

"Beto O'Rourke has consistently failed to support Texas' efforts to keep our communities and families safe," said Abbott. "He has even gone so far as to say that he would tear down the walls that we have put in place to protect our border."

Most recently, Abbott has called into question O'Rourke's stance on Russia, stating, "Beto was 1 of 10 members of Congress who voted AGAINST condemning Russia’s policy of aggression against its neighbors. When he had the chance, Beto stood against Ukraine. Beto Was A Rare Vote Against Tough-on-Russia Bills After Invasion of Ukraine."

The current conflict in Ukraine has been playing a role in the Texas Governor race between Greg Abbott and Beto O'Rourke. Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, has made it a talking point in his campaign to attempt to paint Beto O'Rourke as weak on Russia. This is an interesting move, as Texas is a red state and typically leans conservative when it comes to politics.

In 2014, Russia invaded Ukraine and annexed Crimea. This act of aggression by Russia caused the United States to pass a series of sanctions against the country. O'Rourke was one of ten members of Congress who voted against a resolution condemning Russia's policy in Ukraine. Abbott has been using this vote to attempt to show that O'Rourke is weak on Russia and not willing to stand up to them.

Since the invasion of Ukraine, the United States has passed a series of bills that are meant to be tough on Russia. O'Rourke has voted for all of these bills, showing that he is willing to stand up to Russia. This November, we'll get to find out if Abbott's messages regarding O'Rourke's voting history will work against him, or how each candidate's stances resonate with Texas voters.

It will be interesting to see how the Ukraine conflict plays into the Texas Governor race and whether Abbott's attacks on O'Rourke will have an impact on the election.

The November general election is still several months away, but it is already shaping up to be a very exciting race. Both Abbott and O'Rourke have strong supporters, and both are ready to fight hard for the Texas Governor's seat.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Texas race for Governor!
