Many Americans don't read. Over 50% of Americans didn't finish a book last year.
With National Book Lovers Day coming up on August 9th, it's the perfect time to change that.
Here are four ways you can celebrate National Book Lovers Day right here in Henderson.
Visit a Library
One of the great things about living in Henderson is that finding a library is easy. There are 5 libraries in Henderson.
If you don't have a library card, no problem. You can order one online or at any location. All you have to do is bring your ID. If you lost your library card, you could get a replacement for $1.
If a book you're looking for isn't in stock, you can request a title through their website.
It's also worth mentioning that libraries aren't just for reading. You can also reserve a computer or a study room if you need one.
For more information, visit their website.
Visit One of Your Local Bookstores
Visiting your local bookstore is another great way to celebrate. If you can get a great book to read and support a local business, that's a win-win.
Here are two great bookstores in Henderson.
Copper Cat Books
Copper Cat Books has been serving Hendeson for over four years now.
While it's primarily a used book store, they also sell new books.
Everything about his charming little store is unique. The unique part is their constantly changing inventory. Their wide variety of books means that there's almost always something for everyone.
But, beware, most books are one-offs. So if you see something you like, buy it. There's no guarantee you will find it again.
Let them know if you don't find what you're looking for. They will add you to their "Wish List" and let you know when they get a copy of the book, format, condition, and printing you're looking for.
You might also run into Mickey, their semi-resident store cat, if you're lucky.

Barnes & Noble
Amazon completely changed the book-selling industry. Part of that change was the fall of huge bookstore chains such as Boarders.
Today, Barnes & Noble feels like the last big bookstore standing. It has over 600 locations in 50 states, including one in Henderson.
There's definitely something special about shopping at a mom-and-pop bookstore. But, many people also have great memories of spending time at bigger stores. I personally have many great memories of drinking coffee, reading, and just browsing for hours in one of their giant stores.

Ebooks are a little controversial. Some book lovers are very traditional when it comes to books. The idea of reading a book on a device rather than the old-fashioned way isn't popular with everyone.
I used to be one of those people. But, travel changed my mind. It's simply not practical to lug around books all the time.
Plus, it's 2022, so we should probably stop fighting technology. Technology has changed the world in many ways; making it easy to carry 1000s of books in your pocket is a good thing.
So if you have any books on your phone or tablet, now's a great time to give them a read.
Read a Book You Already Have
Do you have a new book you haven't gotten around to reading yet?
Is there an old book that you haven't reread in a while?
Either way, now's as good a time as any to pick it up.
