New isn’t always better. Sometimes old-school is best.
There’s no shortage of great burgers spots in Los Angeles. It feels like a new restaurant opens every week.
Many burger restaurants try to do things differently to stand out. Sometimes that results in a truly great restaurant. Other times, it bombs, and the restaurant quietly goes out of business.
Bill’s Burgers isn’t one of those places. It’s as old school as they come. The burgers there taste the same as they did 50 years ago.
That goes to prove that things don’t always need to change.
Bill’s Burgers
WWII veteran Bill Elwell opened Bill’s Burgers over 50 years ago. It’s been a Valley favorite every since.
Bill has been flipping burgers on his 10-foot by 20-foot greasy grill since the start. Everything about Bill’s Burgers is simple and old-school.
Even the prices are old school. There is nothing on the menu over $6.
Be sure to bring cash; part of the old-school charm includes not accepting credit cards.

If you’re looking for a fancy, customized burger, this isn’t the place for you. The menu here keeps it simple.

If hot dogs are more your speed, you can get a hot dog or chili dog.
There is also a long list of sandwiches on the menu, including a ham sandwich, grilled cheese, BLT, and more.
Bill’s is one of the few burger places that don’t serve fries. That’s ok, though, because it tastes just as good with a bag of chips.
