Celebrate Earth Day by supporting a local vegan restaurant

Eugene Adams

With Earth Day quickly approaching, it’s a good time to start thinking about how we can help the planet.

One increasingly popular way is to reduce our consumption of animal products.

Veganism benefits the earth in many ways. A plant-based diet is also good for your heart health, according to the Mayo Clinic

Going vegan isn't for everyone. But, eating a vegan meal every once in a while or slightly reducing your animal product intake is a great start.

Thankfully, if you live in Los Angeles, you don’t have to look far for a vegan restaurant. Great-tasting vegan restaurants are all over L.A

If you’re looking for a great-tasting vegan meal to celebrate Earth Day, here are three great options.

De Buena Planta

Mexcian food in Southern California is a dime a dozen. For a Mexican restaurant to stand out, it has to add a unique twist. De Buena Planta does just that.

The team behind Venice’s Butcher’s Daughter opened this plant-based Mexican restaurant in 2020.

The beachy vibes of Venice merge perfectly with plant-based tacos, organic margaritas, and fine mezcal. De Buena Planta does a particularly great job of highlighting all the fresh, seasonal produce California offers.

The Quesadilla with vegan cheese and the Carne Asada tacos (made with impossible Asada) taste just as good as the “real” things.

Come by Monday through Friday from 4 pm- 6 pm for Happy Hour.

Hours:

Monday — Friday: 4 pm- 10 pm

Saturday — Sunday: 10 am- 10 pm

Real Food Daily

The number of Vegan restaurants in Los Angeles has exploded in recent years. Real Food Daily isn’t part of the trend. It’s been serving great vegan food in Los Angeles since 1993.

A restaurant doesn’t last that long in a food market as crowded as L.A. without serving some great food.

Their Caesar Salad is one of my personal favorites. Their burgers made with impossible patties are a huge hit as well.

If salads and burgers aren’t your things, they have a great pizza menu and serve breakfast all day as well.

Note: They also have a location in Pasadena. The LAX location is still closed but will hopefully return soon.

Hours:

Monday: 11 am- 9 pm

Tuesday — Friday: 11 am- 10 pm

Saturday: 10 am- 10 pm

Sunday: 10 am- 9 pm

Just What I Kneaded

This 100% vegan cafe and bakery wins some points for its creative name.

Vegan baking can be highly underrated. But, with the way head baker Justine Hernandez bakes, that might not be true for long.

Just What I Kneaded has great galettes, cookies, scones, and coffee.

Also, their vegan BLT is easily one of the best vegan sandwiches around.

Hours:

Monday — Saturday: 8 am- 4 pm

Sunday: 9 am- 4 pm

Address: 2029 Blake Ave #104 Los Angeles, CA, 90039
