There’s no shortage of good food in Los Angeles. The food scene here has a seemingly unlimited amount of food options.
One excellent food staple of Mexican, Central American, and Caribbean cuisine is tamales. When it comes to finding great tamales, Los Angeles makes it easy on you.
Here are four great restaurant options for the next time you are craving some.
La Indiana Tamales
La Indiana Tamales refers to itself as the best-kept secret in Los Angeles. I don't think that's true; the secret is out.
This family-owned business was acquired back in 1979, and they have been making their tamales from scratch the entire time.
There are six great tamale options:
- Beef
- Cheese and Green Chile
- Chicken
- Pork
- Elote
- Sweet

Chichen Itza
Chichen Itza was opened by the Cetina family back in 2001. It was originally run by Gilberto Sr., his wife Blanca, and their son Gilberto Jr. Today, Mr. and Mrs. Cetina are retired, and Gilberto Jr. is in charge of carrying on the family's legacy.
That family legacy includes authentic Yucatan food. The goal is for customers to feel as if they have been transported to the beautiful Yucatan Peninsula.
The menu includes plenty of great options, but be sure to try one of their three tamale options.
- Tamal Horneado
- Vaporcito
- Tamal Colado
