To say that Kevin Johnson has had an interesting career would be an understatement.
Making it to the NBA is hard, but having a long and successful career is even harder.
Becoming the Mayor of a city as big as Sacramento is hard, but getting elected twice is even harder.
Running a successful restaurant is hard, but running two is even harder.
Kevin Johnson’s newest restaurant opening is just another chapter in an already impressive life.
Kevin Johnson played in the NBA for 12 years. A majority of that career was with the Pheonix Suns.
He wasn’t just a role player, either. He racked up a long list of accomplishments.
- 3 X NBA All-Star (1990,1991,1994)
- 4 X All-NBA Second Team (1989, 1990, 1991, 1994)
- All-NBA Third Team (1992)
- NBA Most Improved Player (1989)
- Jersey (#7) retired by the Suns
After his basketball career ended, he decided to run for Mayor of his hometown.
He was elected Mayor of Sacramento in 2008 and won reelection in 2012.
Kevin Johnson and his wife Michelle Rhee first opened Fixins in Sacramento back in 2019. They are now opening a Southern California location at LA Live.
Fixins was founded to bring people together to celebrate the rich heritage and culture of African Americans.
Their website lists its five core values as:
- Delicious Food
- On-Point Service
- Spotless Stores
- Tight Operations
- Community Love
They also promise to focus on a “Triple Bottom Line.”
Their mission is great, but as we all know, what makes or breaks a restaurant is its menu.
Their menu includes soul food classics such as Fried Chicken, Fried Catfish, Shrimp and Grits, Gumbo, and Chicken and Waffles.
They also serve some great burgers and chicken sandwiches.
