Covid rates are dropping all over the United States. The drop is most evident in California

California now has the lowest per capita rate of new Covid cases in the nation. California’s rate is 1/2 the rate in Texas, 1/4th the rate in New York, and 1/6th the rate in Florida.

While California has the lowest rate of any state, Los Angeles has one of the lowest Covid rates of any County.

The Covid rate is so low in Los Angeles that it managed to hit an encouraging milestone over the weekend.

Zero New Deaths

Los Angeles County reposted zero new Covid-related deaths on Sunday. You read that right, zero.

To be fair, there are reporting delays on weekends, so it’s possible that the actual number was higher. However, all the metrics have been trending in a positive direction concerning Covid.

Things are so good in Los Angeles that it may enter the most lenient yellow tier as soon as this week

Why are the Numbers So Low?

There are many reasons that Los Angeles has such a low covid rate.

First of all, things were much worse in the past months. For a long time, L.A. had one of the worst Covid outbreaks in the country. That left a lot of residents with natural Covid immunity.

Secondly, many residents are vaccinated. According to the Los Angeles Times, 46.8% of residents are at least partially vaccinated, and 31.5% are fully vaccinated.

Trouble on the Horizon?

Just because things are looking good now doesn't guarantee that they will stay that way.

There is some concern over the decreasing amount of interest in vaccines. Last week, Los Angeles had a 50% drop in booked appointments

Hopefully, the slower vaccination rate won’t lead to any problems, but only time will tell.
