Last season the San Antonio Spurs streak of 22 straight playoff appearances came to an end. That streak tied them with the Philadelphia 76ers for the all-time longest streak.

Spurs fans everywhere are hoping this season will be the start of a new streak. So far, those fans have plenty of reason to be hopeful. Through two games, the Spurs have looked good.

Game 1

In the season opener, the Spurs defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 131–119. After falling behind 33–30 after the first quarter, the Spurs took over in the second. They led 66–53 at halftime and did not surrender the lead after that.

DeMar DeRozan led the Spurs with 28 points. The Grizzlies Ja Morant scored 44 in a losing effort.

Game 2

In the second game of the season, the Spurs defeated a tough Toronto Raptors team 119–114.

DeMar DeRozan again led the Spurs in scoring with 27 points. Patty Mills chipped in 21 points off the bench.

Final Thought

Only two games into the season, it is too early to know for sure how good this Spurs team is. However, it is worth remembering that the Spurs finished strong in the bubble with a 5–3 record. That combined with the 2–0 start to the season is a good sign for Spurs fans.
