You read it here first .... even the local news stations have not reported this incident yet.
Multiple times in the last few months, a small plane has had to make an emergency landing on US 95 in Las Vegas. Early in the year, a plane was traveling South, flying over 95 at the Skye Canyon exit when it was forced to land on the side of the highway. It was later struck by a passing SUV. Three people were reported injured in this crash.
Not long after that, another small craft, piloted by a trainee, landed on the same highway, this time South of Las Vegas near Boulder City. This accident was reportedly due to a fuel malfunction in the plane, not pilot error.
Just this morning, March 19 at around 7:30 am, yet another small craft has landed on US 95 once again North of the city, this time near the off ramp to the Paiute Golf Resort. As of this writing there are no reports of injury or reasons stated for the emergency landing. (Update: local news stations have now issued reports that the plane was low on fuel.) The author's spouse works at the Paiute Golf Resort, and states that many of the golf course employees reported to work late due to the Northbound lanes of the highway being closed for a brief period of time right after the crash. No other specifics about the crash have been verified as of this writing.
It is possible that Las Vegas weather could be a contributing factor to some of these recurrent crashes, due to ever-changing wind directions and velocity and other weather-related factors that can make flying a small craft into the Las Vegas valley challenging. Certainly, individual plane equipment, potential pilot error and other issues contribute to these types of incidents.
