A Life Of Success Distilled Into Quotes
The first time I heard of Madonna’s songs was probably over the radio when I was a kid. I didn’t pay that much attention to who the singer was and preferred other non-pop genre music. Like Enya or classical music.
The second time I was exposed to Madonna’s songs was through the popular TV show Glee where they featured songs “Like A Virgin” and “Like A Prayer” — some of the most iconic Madonna songs. That was in 2010.
The third time was in researching this topic where I’m listening to some of Madonna’s popular songs of all time while writing this article. And certain songs are bringing back some memories like “Borderline” and “Music.”
Even though I’ve missed the intiatial wave of these influential songs, I can still understand why people say that Madonna is the ‘Queen of Pop’ and that her music and efforts have stretched the music industry. Just from listening to some of these greatest hits, each song has an entirely different theme to it that’s wildly different. That’s probably why some of her songs didn’t register with me over the years as a Madonna song because they’re so widely different.
But from my research, I learned that Madonna has accumulated a massive amount of success despite the variance of music. Way more than what I think of typical successful artists.
Her critics have to admit that her albums are revolutionary, albeit controversial at times. Furthermore her fans love her music as she has sold over 300 million records worldwide — with 64.5 million albums being sold in the US alone.
Outside of her music career, she’s also a songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. And through those avenues she’s also gained incredible success too.
For many people across the various industries, it’s easy to find inspiration in her work. Many singers and songwriters use her as a source of inspiration for taking that leap into those industries.
And while Madonna will likely endure success for the rest of her days, I know that that success comes at a price. That, like so many others, she’s experienced failure and had many low points before becoming such a success.
Considering that she’s been a woman who pushes the boundaries of the music industry, I figured her quotes on the subject of success can have profound lessons in them that we all could use.
And these quotes come at a good time as Madonna is currently in the works of writing a script for her own autobiographical film, which will provide us more insight into her own mind and thought process before she achieved greatness.
Below is a list of some of her quotes over the years that speak of success. Whether it’s something you have to display or a way of thinking, these quotes can provide insight in what success and thinking like it looks like.

“Imagine if someone like John Lennon or Bob Marley, Sid Vicious, Picasso, whomever, were doing their work, and some corporation, some CEO, some branding entity was saying to you, ‘Well, you can do that, but you’ve got to remove this aspect of your work.’ There would no longer be that purity anymore.” Madonna
“If it’s bitter at the start, then it’s sweeter in the end.” Madonna

“Express yourself, don’t repress yourself.” Madonna
“In this business, my business, I get to meet all kinds of incredible people, fascinating people, glamorous people, and sexy people and highly intellectual people. And you meet them and you go ‘interesting, interesting, interesting’. They’re interesting, but not very many people stop you in your tracks.” Madonna
