The Seattle Art Museum is running a special exhibition from July 1 to October 17, 2021. The art exhibition features Claude Monet’s colorful painting Fishing Boats at Etretat, 1885. It is the only work by the artist in SAM’s collection.
The focus of the art exhibition considers the engagement of the artist with Étretat, a seaside village in Normandy known for its stunning chalk cliffs. Monet traveled to the Étretat village and painted 80 masterpieces in the area. The SAM's collection will feature 11 works by Monet plus contemporary paintings by other artists who worked at the same site.
The Étretat paintings are associated with the growing tensions in the life of an artist during 1880. The artist was under constant pressure from his dealer to produce attractive, marketable paintings. The art exhibition runs through October 17, 2021, and you can visit to witness some of the real-life experiences of an artist.
