At 2:37 am on Monday police received a report of a person who may have been shot at Rose Ave and Ruth Ave between Oakwood and Venice.
Officers reported that they were on scene and investigating. The address reported for the incident was changed to Rose Ave & Lincoln Blvd.
Local witnesses stated that two cars may have been shooting at each other in the area near 828 Rose Ave.
First responders on scene advised an updated location as well as the presence of an overturned vehicle following a collision. One person reportedly died, though it was unclear if it was as a result of the car crash or the gunshot wound.
While police connected these two incidents, it remains unclear if the collision was caused by the shooting.
Soon after, police confirmed that a person was shot. They then began the search for a white Infiniti in connection with a homicide.
The suspect vehicle was reported to have possible collision damage. The suspect may be armed with a .45 caliber handgun.
Firefighters on scene rescued a person trapped in the overturned vehicle.
It is unclear how the shooting and car crash are related.
According to Fox11, Paramedics performed CPR on the two victims who were both suffering from gunshot wounds. The man, age 18, was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman, believed to be in her early 20s, was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition. It is believed she will be able to make a full recovery, authorities said.
Police were in the beginning stages of the investigation and it was unclear whether the victims were targeted or if it was a random act of violence.
The investigation is ongoing.
