Two people shot in Marin City, originally reported as Sausalito

After 6 pm on Sunday a shooting was reported in Marin City near Sausalito on Cole Drive and Drake Avenue.

Two people were struck by gunfire according to police.

Emergency Medical Services reports a man struck by gunfire at least five times was being transported to a local hospital.

According to local citizens, Marin City is where rapper Tupac spent his high school years.

No further information on the crime is currently available.

According to SFGATE, the history of Marin City began during World War II, when the land between the highway to the east and what is now the Golden Gate National Recreation Area to the west was transformed from a dairy farm into temporary housing for 6,000 workers. The workers built 93 liberty ships and tankers in three years at the Marinship shipyard. When the war ended, white workers either returned home or moved into neighboring towns and cities.

"Black people were not welcome anywhere else in the county at the time," said Small, who moved to Marin City in 1954 when he left the Air Force. But the shipyard workers stayed where they were, he says, and became part of Marin's labor force.
