Robberies in Temescal

Temescal is ordinarily a relatively safe part of Oakland near the Berkeley border.

According to extraspace.com, not only is Temescal one of the safest neighborhoods in Oakland, but it is also a trendy district with tons of local restaurants, shops, and breweries, which makes it particularly popular for young adults.

In 2017, a well-known musician, Dave Deporis, died after being robbed and dragged from a car in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood.

In 2014, a 37-year-old woman was hospitalized after she was badly beaten by two men who stole her purse in the Temescal District, police said.

The woman was walking alone about 6:47 p.m. Monday in the 4800 block of Shattuck Avenue when the men came up behind her and demanded her purse.

Temescal remains relatively safe, but visitors and inhabitants shoudl still take care, keep aware of surroundings, and avoid walking while distracted. Crime can happen anywhere.
