On Monday afternoon a man was fatally shot in Oakland’s Chinatown near Old Oakland. A murder investigation is currently underway.

Oakland Police responded to an alert that shots had been fired on the 400 block of 8th street near Broadway a little after 2 pm.

More than 20 rounds were fired one block away from the Oakland Plice Department’s headquarters.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been fatally shot.

It’s unknown at this time what prompted the shooting.

Traffic was blocked in the area while officers investigated the shooting. Police have asked anyone with information to contact the homicide division at 510-238-3821.

"We are asking the public if they've seen anything, if they heard anything, if they took videos, that they please contact our homicide division," Captain Bobby Hookfin said to ABC7. "No matter how small you think that information is, that may be a piece of the puzzle that we're missing."

The Suspects

Four suspects reportedly fled toward West Oakland in a black Honda. A witness reportedly saw two male suspects fleeing the scene. People in the area were seen running from the scene of the shooting.

Police are searching for four suspects, three of whom are allegedly armed with weapons. Police reported that the suspect used a high-powered rifle.

At least 22 shell casings were recovered from the scene.
