Local author, Helen Millman, is set to release her second book, “Olive and the Valentine’s Spell” on February 1st. It has already received the prestigious 2022 Family Choice Award.
Helen was inspired to write this story based on one of her three sons, Ben, and his curiosity about Valentine’s Day when he was a young boy. The title character, Olive, is a sweet elementary school boy who is afraid to go to school on Valentine's Day because he thinks he'll have to get married! Olive's mom joins in his fight to defeat the "princess of love," but along the way he learns an even bigger lesson, discovering the true meaning of love.
Olive and the Valentine's Spell is an inspiring children's book for all ages that shines a humorous light on Valentine's Day and overcoming your fears.
Helen gets asked this question a lot, “What do I wish for my readers to learn from my books about love?” Helen said, “I learned that the fear of love often relates to fear of rejection. I wish to connect my readers with the opportunity to discover love not so much romantically but rather from a context that love is in everything that we do. Perhaps it will allow the meaning of love to reveal itself with a light and tender place in their eyes.”
The hardcover book is beautifully illustrated by Vanessa Alexandre and is suitable for children ages 3 and up. The book has a lovely rhythmic flow to it making it ideal for parents to read to their children. Kids who are just learning to read will also have fun reading it too as the rhyming words and pictures will keep them engaged. It is published by Mascot, it’s 38 pages, available in hardcover at $17.95 and as an ebook. It can be pre-ordered on Amazon, Books-A-Million, Target, Barnes & Noble, Mascot and Walmart.
