Most Popular No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu gym in Fayetteville

Element Grappling-Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Element Grappling-Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a popular Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym based in Fayetteville and Fort Bragg North Carolina. Started in November 2021, Element Grappling quickly became one of the most popular schools with classes everyday ranging from 20-30 people, from beginners to black belts. Element Grappling has a unique style of No-Gi Jiu Jitsu, combining collegiate level wrestling and submission grappling. The school is located close to the military base Fort Bragg, about a 2-3 minute drive, which is super convenient for the soldiers stationed there or military folks traveling through. A fifteen minute drive from downtown Fayetteville also makes it extremely convenient for Fayetteville locals. Walking in, you'll be greeted by one of the many coaches, a quick hand shake, and your signature on a waiver and you're set to learn and or roll. Element Grappling does a free week trial for anyone interested. The vibe is extremely friendly and you can tell straight away that everyone here is family. There are two bathrooms, gender neutral and free water bottles available in the fridge. A quick tour and you'll find yourself in their apparel store where they offer some really amazing and unique Rash-Guards. You organize your belonging on one of the benches take of your shoes and step on the mats and you start struggling with the move of the day but one of the coaches immediately comes over and walks you through the technique. He doesn't leave until you've mastered it. After an hour of learning Brazilian jiu-jitsu, BJJ for short, sparring begins. But first head Coach Greg, gives a safety brief detailing what is and isn't allowed, highlighting that the goal is not to hurt or win but to learn. You are still feeling uneasy about going "live" so one of the Coaches suggests you watch for a round then roll "light" with one of the coaches. You think this idea is great, you watch everyone roll really hard and try to submit each other. You go with the Coach but they take it very light allowing you to truly get a sense of this Martial Art they call Brazilian Jiu Jitsu You have enjoyed your time and you're thinking of signing up but you're active duty military and you know you will be gone for training so the idea of a contract really doesn't sit well with you. However one of the Coaches explain that Element Grappling has no contracts.

How their Membership payment works

  • no contracts
  • month to month
  • cancel at anytime with a text or phone call
  • no cancellation fee
  • no late payment fee

This sounds great, but in your experience businesses tend to not cancel memberships or other reoccurring payments easily but after talking to some of the other gym members, you come to find out that a key pillar in their business philosophy is customer service and that their track record is perfect. You end up signing up, getting a free T-shirt and joining a new family.

Element Grappling BJJ-ADCC 2022 West Coast Trials

Element Grappling-Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Head Instructor Gregory Raffield competed at ADCC trials this weekend and had an awesome showing! Greg competed in the 88kg weight class with a bracket size of 256. Coach Greg Secured a Heel Hook in the first match in under 42 seconds! The inside Heel Hook has been a go to move for Greg. The second match Coach Greg took his opponents back off a while timed Kimura. After securing the body triangle Greg moved to finishing his opponent via a very tight strangle hold, his opponent had good defense and wrist control but ultimately Greg was able to sink in a very deep figure four grip and his opponent tapped quickly. Moving all the way from the 256 bracket to spot number 64, Greg's last opponent for the day was a tough Brown Belt. The match was a tough one with Greg taking a brutal head butt to the face almost sending his front teeth through his lip. Despite the blood, Greg kept going after his opponent with some good attacks, his opponent scored a guard pass and ultimately decided that was enough to win the fight. Matches like this often see tactics employed as mentioned above. Sometimes it is better to "play the game" then to submit your opponent. Despite the loss of the third match, Greg had a great showing and everyone at Element Grappling-Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is super proud of him! To be gracious in victory and defeat is the greatest accomplishment any combat athlete could strive for! If you are following the No-Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu scene be on the look out Coach Greg and all the other competitors from Element Grappling-Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! If you are in Fayetteville NC or the surrounding area make sure to come check out the gym!
