AUBURN, AL. - Auburn University students, especially female students, have been urged to remain cautious and vigilant regarding their safety on and off campus. This comes after the recent report of four female students who were potentially drugged by their rideshare bus driver last Friday night.

The incident was reported to the University's Department of Campus Safety & Security on Tuesday by the city of Auburn Police Department and a campus security authority. According to the university, the female students had traveled to an off-campus event using a local rideshare bus, and the drinks provided by the driver made them sick.

One of the female students who reported the incident to the campus security authority stated that she had between two and three drinks, including a mixed drink provided by the driver, which caused her to experience vomiting, numbness, confusion, and memory loss.

This alarming incident has brought attention to the need for Auburn University students, especially female students, to remain vigilant and cautious regarding their safety. The charm and friendliness of the Auburn community can sometimes cause students to put their guard down. Still, it is essential to stay aware and alert of potential harm.

According to a survey conducted by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, one in five women in the United States will experience sexual assault in their lifetime. This statistic highlights the importance of universities and communities promoting a safe environment for all students, especially female students.

Auburn University has provided various resources and programs to promote campus safety, such as the Safe Harbor program, which offers free and confidential services to students who have experienced sexual assault, relationship violence, or stalking. Additionally, the university's campus security authority offers various safety resources, including self-defense classes, emergency call boxes, and a campus escort service.

As investigations into the recent incident continue, the university has encouraged students to be cautious and vigilant when using rideshare services and never to accept drinks or food from strangers. The university has also advised students to always travel in groups, to stay in well-lit areas, and to be aware of their surroundings.

Auburn University's commitment to promoting campus safety and resources for students is crucial in creating a safe and secure environment for all students. However, it is also vital for students to take responsibility for their safety and to remain vigilant and cautious in potentially dangerous situations.

As students at Auburn University continue to enjoy the charm and friendliness of the Auburn community, they must remain aware of potential harm and take the necessary precautions to stay safe.

What measures do you think universities should take to ensure the safety of their students, especially female students, in a world where sexual assault and harassment are prevalent?
