Kyung Lah, a CNN reporter, went to San Francisco to investigate rumors about voter dissatisfaction in the city, which is governed by Democrats, due to the high rate of street crime. However, during her live broadcast, she became an unintended victim of a street robbery, ironically highlighting the issue of crime in the city.
According to a report published by the San Francisco Chronicle, a majority of the city's residents polled revealed that they have fallen victim to theft as crime rates continue to surge.
Specifically, over 50% of respondents reported being victims of theft, highlighting the concerning and pervasive nature of the problem.
CNN reporter Kyung Lah had hired security to watch over both herself and her rental car. However, even with this added protection, her vehicle was broken into on Friday while she was reporting live. Lah took to Twitter to share her experience and shed light on the harsh reality of life in a Democrat-run city.
She took to Twitter to write the following complaints:
Got robbed. Again. @jasonkCNN & I was at city hall in San Francisco to do an interview for @CNN. We had security to watch our rental car + crew car. Thieves did this in under 4 seconds. Security stopped the jerks from stealing other bags. But seriously- this is ridiculous.

Our hired security guard tried to grab the crooks (I’m glad he didn’t get hurt!) but he got this picture of the getaway car. To the jerks who stole our stuff— I hope someone on this site sees your plate and you get caught.
San Francisco is a beautiful city. This is our 3rd day here and I’ve loved my time here. But if you do visit this city, know that even with hired security watching your car, it is not enough.
Now I’m about to try and get a Southwest Air flight back to Los Angeles without ID or passport since they were both stolen. I’ll let you know how that goes.
Because so many people get their cars broken into and their bags stolen, Southwest Air was very used to my lack-of-ID problem and smoothly gave me my ticket after a brief security check.
While Lah and producer Jason Kravarik were inside San Francisco's City Hall, thieves managed to steal two bags, one of which contained Lah's passport, from their rental car. This incident occurred amidst a rising crime rate in San Francisco, which has caught many residents off guard. In fact, as early as June 2022, there was a recall effort targeting District Attorney Chesa Boudin, who was widely criticized for being lenient on crime.
The situation has only worsened in 2023, with a staggering 525 reported robberies in San Francisco so far. Unfortunately, there seems to be no end in sight to this epidemic as we approach the summer months.
