I first tried Just for Keyks when a foodie friend brought me to the Filled Market in DTLA. I am not a big dessert person so I passed by the booth several times before seeing someone eating a Keyk (pronounced cake) and how much she LOVED it. Her eyes were rolling back and the smile on her face made me say "I'll take one of each please". I loved them so much, I now order once a month from Chef Jae.

Chef Jae Javier de Castro first started baking while living in New York. Hostess had just shut down the Twinkie plant and everyone was buying Twinkie pans to make their own childhood favorites at home. She started playing around with cake flavors, frostings and even added toppings. Everyone loved them. Finally, after a little convincing she started selling them to friends and family. What started off so small started to steam roll into a bona fide business. Due to life, she moved back to the Philippines for 2 years and pursued part time catering work. Then to California to be near her daughter who is now in college. Once she got back to the states, she knew she needed to start baking again. Just for Keyks emerged and now is a fan favorite at the Filled Market inside the Manila District. Every Sunday the Manila District provides a socially distanced venue for food pop ups and crafts. Starting with a small pop up she is now catering desserts for events and weddings.

What I love about the company is that she has new flavors every month. You will never get bored of the treat. This month her flavors are Mexican hot chocolate (chocolate Keyk with buttercream, Valrhona chocolate shavings, marshmallows, and white chocolate pearls), Strawberry Champagne (strawberry Keyk with buttercream, fresh strawberries on a bed of champagne noodles) Plus, she does something different every month in addition to her cakes. In the past she has had ice cream sandwiches, cookies and do it yourself decorating that is super fun and a great way to get your kids involved. This month she is doing a Red Velvet Raspberry Chocolate and a Rose Lychee trifle.
