If you have spent any time on Instagram or Tik Tok, you surely have seen the new Korean garlic cream cheese bread that has gone viral. Every Koreatown has a bakery, (or three) that is selling this viral specialty. I can understand why. It is amazingly delicious.
Every bakery is slightly different, but by far, my favorite is from Calic Bread out of Los Angeles. The bread itself is like a crusty French bread but slightly sweeter. It is then cut into 6 wedges and stuffed with an herb cream cheese. If that was not enough, it is then dunked, (several times) and submerged into a bath of garlic, butter, milk, and herbs. Once the dunking has stopped, they top the bread with shredded cheese and package it for sale on SoCal Milk drop (LA, OC & IE delivery) or on Goldbelly for nationwide shipment.
The bread is delivered frozen with truly clear directions on how to re-heat it. I loved that they give you an air fryer option for reheating! Made my life so much easier! But do not worry, a conventional oven or even a large toaster oven will be perfect as well.
Your entire house will have a lingering smell of garlic butter and you'll start salivating as you're waiting for your timer to ding. Be very careful. The bread is going to be super-hot, plus there will be hot butter at the bottom of your tray. Protip: when the bread is 75% done, take it out and cut the wedges apart and place them separated on your baking sheet. This ensures that the cream cheese insides have been fully reheated, and you get more crisper edges. Huge bonus! Also, this is a large loaf. You will not be able to eat the entire loaf in one sitting unless you have a dinner party of six. I highly recommend you only heat up as many wedges as there are people. You can put the rest back in the freezer or keep in the fridge for the next day to reheat. Just be sure to rewrap it up tightly in plastic wrap and use a freezer bag.
Definitely give Calic Bread a try if you’re in the mood for something decadently delicious! They also have a Corn and a Monster Garlic Cream Cheese Bread in addition to the Original.
