Little Coyote Pizza was howling at me!

I have been following Little Coyote Pizza on Instagram for about 6 months total intentions of visiting, but as life happens, I never got around to it. Then, a week ago, they posted a photo of their meatball sub on Instagram. It was three huge meatballs, melty cheese on a toasted Italian roll. The power of Instagram got me in there today.

I ordered a slice of their classic pepperoni, the meatball sub and a Caesar salad. It was the best choice I made in 2021!

Due to Covid, you cannot enter the restaurant. They have a table out front to take your orders, however, check out their menu online first. They have a huge selection of wines and beers. It might be a bit overwhelming trying to decide when you get there.

Let’s start with the salad. It looks like an everyday basic salad. Romaine lettuce, fresh micro croutons, real anchovies, and garlic in the dressing. The thing is, it didn’t taste basic. The lettuce was super fresh and ice cold. The dressing had a bite, but it was not overwhelming, and the micro croutons absolutely made the salad. There were bits of crunch in every bite. I dare say that it is now in my top three favorite Caesars salads of all time! It was so good.

Next was a slice of the pepperoni pizza. It is a thin crust. The sauce is amazing. I do not eat pizza often, because it gives me horrible heart burn, but this sauce was not acidic at all. It had an amble layer of cheese and a ton of pepperonis. They are curly and crispy and delicious. Overall, it is a solid slice. I lean towards the word solid as I felt it was a bit too greasy for me. Grease isn’t always a bad thing, but next time I’ll probably get the veggie or a slice of their White Pie (spinach, ricotta, garlic, onion, mozzarella, Calabrian chili’s and white sauce).

Now, lets talk meatball sub. The meatball is made with a 50/50 beef and pork blend along with herbs and spices. It is placed on an Italian roll with an ample amount of sauce and topped with mozzarella. Then the sandwich is put into the pizza over and toasted until the cheese melts. It is phenomenal! The meatballs are so tender, but not mushy. That yummy sauce I was talking about earlier brings out all the flavor in the meatballs and the roll was perfectly toasted. There was a nice crunch with every bite. I know it is good when I do not want it to end. I was sad when I took the last bite. I would drive the 30 minutes to get here for this sandwich alone. I am already planning my next trip.

I would highly recommend Little Coyote Pizza from personal experience and because of the Long Beach cult following they have formed. They even sell some really cool tie-dye swag.
