Vietnamese garlic chicken wings from Mama Hieus Rock!
As we all know, times are hard for restaurants right now. Patio dining has just opened back up, but the everlasting mark that closing indoor and outdoor dining has done will take years to recover from. As a food photographer and blogger, I have really tried to give back to the restaurant community. These mom-and-pop shops were already working so hard before the pandemic, but now they are fighting to stay open with their businesses cut back by 75% of what it was. The very least I can do is help promote a few places that have always been so kind to me.Read full story
Dessert lovers rejoice over modern day Twinkie from Just For Keyks!
I first tried Just for Keyks when a foodie friend brought me to the Filled Market in DTLA. I am not a big dessert person so I passed by the booth several times before seeing someone eating a Keyk (pronounced cake) and how much she LOVED it. Her eyes were rolling back and the smile on her face made me say "I'll take one of each please". I loved them so much, I now order once a month from Chef Jae.Read full story
Who is craving amazing fried chicken sandwiches from Poultrygram?
On my way home from San Diego, I was so hungry I had to stop to eat. I got off the freeway and I yelped the nearest places. I was really in the mood for fried chicken. I saw that Poultrygram had just opened at the Irvine Spectrum. They also have locations in San Jose, Hollywood, and Brea. This location is sharing space with Umami Burger next door to the Improv. I ordered online from the parking lot, but there is a small tent and table out front where you can order in person and pick up your order.Read full story
I tried another hot chicken restaurant in Long Beach and this is what I thought...
If you haven't heard of Nashville Hot Chicken, you don't know what you are missing. It is fried chicken, chicken tenders or boneless chicken that has been battered and deep fried. Dog Haus is karate kicking its way to help No Kid Hungry
Who doesn’t love a hot dog? I sure do, especially when it is from Dog Haus. They have multiple locations, but I usually go to the one in Long Beach. There’s two hours of free parking and easy to get to. Dog Haus is known for their unique flavor combinations and King’s Hawaiian rolls used as the buns. However, as they have grown, they now have burgers, chicken, and plant-based options as well. My goto’s are usually the “Chili and the Kid”, (white American cheese, haus chili, crispy onions, and chipotle aioli) or “The Fonz” (spicy Italian sausage, pastrami, and mozzarella). But I am super excited about their new quarterly chef collaboration. This quarter they have collaborated with The Cooking Guy and No Kid Hungry. Same came up with a Japanese inspired hot dog called the Mr. Miyagi and its delicious.Read full story
The Best Mai Tai's in the OC at Billy's at the Beach!
Today was date day and it was my turn to decide what to do. In 2021, you have got to be creative since we are still quarantining and outdoor dining at local restaurants are closed. I had planned to do a picnic at a local park, but my allergies flared up this morning and sitting in the middle of a field probably was not the best idea. So, I jumped onto Instagram and saw that Billy’s at the Beach was said to have “The best Mai Tai’s ever!” That sounded like a challenge to me, so I went to their website to see what they had.Read full story
Crimson Coward has game changing whole spicy wings!
Located in an unassuming strip mall in Downey, CA. Crimson Coward is showing Downey locals what crispy and spicy hot chicken should be. I love that they only use premium, all-natural, hormone and antibiotic-free chicken. They have 5 heat levels starting with no heat to BURRN, baby burn. I personally can only handle a mild to a medium. Anything more will numb my tongue and leave me useless.Read full story

Don't judge a burrito by the size...
Once on Jonathan Gold's list of his five favorite burritos, I was expecting for it these burritos to look amazing. They do not. I first tried Burritos La Palmas when a friend brought me some leftovers from the Smorgasbord in LA. They had a pop-up tent on Sundays, and he said the line always wound around the corner. I was told I NEEDED these burritos.Read full story
Vietnamese food almost as good as my moms!
If you've ever craved vietnamese food or even attempted to try it, the last thing I would suggest is to venture into Orange County's Little Saigon without a plan. The small parking lots and mass amount of cars is overwhelming enough without knowing what to try or where to try it.Read full story

Fresh caught Lobsters sold at the dock in San Pedro
I look forward to spiney Lobster season every year! I used to go to Puerto Nuevo, Mexico and get a huge lobster lunch for $10, but since it’s not as safe to travel I have been to create the seaside meal at home. I've been able to buy the lobster from different vendors over the years, but either the lobster was overpriced, or they tasted old. My guess is that they probably keptthe lobsters in tanks for weeks at a time. So, I was elated to find Critters Lobster who sells every other Saturday at a dock in San Pedro.Read full story
Velma's Cafe is serving up some amazing Mexican food in Downey!
I've been to Velma's Cafe twice now and both times I thoroughly enjoyed the food! It is located in an older building on a busy street in Southgate, CA. If you're not paying attention you'd easily pass it by. There is street only parking and limited indoor seating, but its so worth it! Protip: ask for seating on the patio. There are three tables with a view of their a gorgeous mural. Due to Covid, they are currently only doing takeout.Read full story
Ammatoli is serving up the best roasted chicken in Long Beach, CA!
Let's talk about my favorite restaurant in Long Beach. Located on the ever-growing 3rd street in Long Beach, Ammatoli Mediterranean Bites is perhaps, my greatest find ever. I first went in November of 2018 and go at least every other month since! As you walk into the restaurant, you can see how much time and care was put into the decor. It is not only very chic, but it’s warm and inviting! Dima, the owner was previously a highly successful interior designer and it shows in the design. However, her love and passion for food led her into opening up Ammatoli.Read full story

Two different salads and four bowls (chicken, beef, salmon, shrimp and tofu). You can add on fresh veggies to any bowl. So many restaurants are going through such a hard time right now. Especially upscale establishments that are primarily a sit-down service and have not done a lot of take out in the past.
