5 Food Charities in Los Angeles to make you feel like a better human

Doesn't it feel like it's been Black Friday since Halloween! Finally, it's Giving Tuesday, and we have a chance to complete the circle of consumption. After all, the more you give to others, the more you receive in return. Here's a list of food charities in Los Angeles to make you feel like a better human.

Toys for Tamales

Now until Saturday, December 11th, your gift of a toy will get you TWO HOLIDAY TAMALES courtesy of James Beard Award-Winning Chef Eduardo Ruiz and Revolution Carts. The toys will benefit the Venice Community Housing project in celebration of the Chicas Tacos location that opened at Whole Foods Venice this year. The collaboration with tamale vending cart Revolution Carts of Boyle Heights is a special project for the Chef to expand the reach of tamale maker Angeles Lopez and her mother.

How you can help: Bring an unwrapped toy or $10 gift card to any Chicas Tacos location until December 11th, 2021.

No Kid Hungry

No Kid Hungry helps relieve the strain of food insecurity in Los Angeles with school lunch and education programs. Best of all, a donation of $50 can help feed 500 kids!

How you can help: Donate here or consider helping out in person.

The L.A. Food Bank

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank gets food in the hands of almost a million Angelenos a month. On Giving Tuesday, donating to the L.A. Food Bank will count twice as much, so just 35 dollars will stretch to 280 meals.

How you can help: Donate here or consider a volunteering opportunity. They even have virtual ones, which are great to do with your little kids since the requirements on site are to be at least 18 years old.

World Central Kitchen

This is probably one of the most well-known food charities in Los Angeles due in large part to its vocal founder, the famed Chef José Andrés. He and his wife started the charity after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, and it's since expanded from food relief response to kitchen safety and food production. The world central kitchen also partners with many local kitchens around the world to help get the funds where it's most needed. The entire week of November 29th, 2021, will have donations matched up to a million dollars.

How you can help: Donate here and help the WCK reach its goal of raising one billion over the next ten years.

Toys for Tots at Pink Taco

Pink Taco on Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood will be collecting unwrapped gifts for “Toys for Tots” now until Wednesday, December 15th. You can reward yourself with extra tacos.
