If you're looking to spend this Memorial Day Weekend in Los Angeles soaking up the sun and chowin' down on some meaty eats, then you are in good company (the millions, actually)! Here are my picks if you'd like to experience a low-key, super cheap, awesome Memorial Day Weekend in Los Angeles.
Sun & Fun
You would have to be crazy to go to the beach on Memorial Day weekend, right?? Not if you head there early and plan ahead!
My two favorites are Crystal Cove in Newport Beach and Rosie's Dog Beach in Long Beach. If you're heading to Newport Beach, I suggest making a reservation at The Beachcomber Cafe to coincide with your visit. You can literally hang out on the beach right in front before you're sat at your table.
Looking to include your fur baby on this holiday? Rosie's Dog Beach allows for off-leash fun and is the only off-leash dog beach in L.A. County! Located in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach, the beach is open from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Hungry? Head to nearby Panxa Cocina and enjoy outdoor patio seating for Fido and friends.
Nothing is more American than baseball, and nothing is more Los Angeles than Dodgers!
Get tickets to the Memorial Game Day for as little as 25 dollars to see the Los Angeles Dodgers versus the St. Louis Cardinals. Although if you're anything like me, you're more interested in seeing the Dodger Dog versus the Cheeto-lote showdown.
Eats & Treats
Friday, May 28th through Monday, May 31st, Hopdoddy will donate a percentage of proceeds from ALL SALES to the Seal Legacy Foundation, a charity that supports families of wounded and fallen U.S. Navy Seals. You can order in or online for curbside pick-up.
Saturday, May 29th is the Café Dulce at ROW DTLA X Ingrained LA pop-up from 10:30 a.m to 4 p.m. Born out of a pandemic from the chefs at Honeybird, this menu features meals created for those international students that couldn't travel home. Choose between the Hainan Chicken Bowl ($14) and the Japanese Beef Bowl ($14).
Pre-orders are available on the Ingrained LA website above.
Tallula's in Santa Monica kicks off Summer Brunch this weekend from noon to 3:30 p.m. with sweet items like Breakfast Bowls, Chilaquiles, and new, daytime cocktails like Bubbles & Blooms with hibiscus-infused tequila on the outdoor patio.
Monday, May 31st is Memorial Day, and nothing says holiday like a big ol' BBQ. Available all weekend, Messhall Kitchen in Los Feliz will be serving an all-day Carolina-style BBQ with craft cocktails on their outdoor area. You can also choose to pick up and bring it home to convince your friends you did it yourself :)
Choose between the Biggie with 1 lb of pulled pork, a full rack of baby back ribs, a whole chicken, dry rub wings, and a smoked ribeye ($99), or the Smalls, which is about half that. ($69). Both include the Good Stuff, which is rolls, cheddar mash, coleslaw, Brussel sprouts, and more!
Music & Arts
Memorial Day weekend in Los Angeles continues at The Original Farmers Market in mid-city, where outdoor concerts are officially back with Summer Sounds on the Plaza. This Friday, May 28th, you can enjoy the sounds of Dave Stuckey and the Hot House Gang from 5 to 7 p.m. Best of all, it's FREE!
Next, you can enjoy an indoor concert from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where they've got FREE concerts all weekend long! Jazz with the Curtis Stone Quartet takes place Friday, May 28th starting at 6 p.m. and Sundays are dedicated to classical music, with May 30th being Cristina Montes on the harp.
Personally I can't wait till they get back to their in-person Summer concerts but there's no reason you can't make the most of it until they finally do.
Happy Memorial Day, Los Angeles!
