ROW DTLA was once a 32-acre historic produce marketplace originally created in the 1920s in the Downtown Arts District. Today it still a marketplace but instead of just fruit, you have an array of delicious retail stores, creative office spaces, fantastic restaurants, and incredible lifestyle offerings.

Start with Coffee
Caffeine is a big deal at Row DTLA with three different coffee spots to choose from. Go Get Em Tiger is good for fancy nut milks and superior coffees while Café Dulce “Dulce Dos” specializes in Vietnamese Iced Coffee and Green Tea Donuts. Both open as early as 8 a.m. most days.
Lastly, the Paramount Coffee Project is open for all-day dining that starts with coffee and ends with happy hour and an early dinner. This Australian cafe is temporarily closed due to the pandemic but they swear they will be back.
Now what are you wearing!
More than just a regular shopping experience, all of these spaces are designed to help you create an entire lifestyle picture that begins with sustainable clothing, incredible scents, and items have a backstory to them.
It's hard to go back to Target when you're burning a candle from Myrtle whose scent was inspired by breezy North East LA nights, and hand poured by an organization that employs adults with mental disabilities (Light 4 Life).
Time for Lunch!
Pikunico from Chef Kuniko Yagi (Hinoki & the Bird and Top Chef) offers housemade karaage served in a basket, salad, or bowl along with delicious sides and drinks.
A former banker and fine dining chef; Chef Kuniko wanted to expand her reach to everyone and not just the 1%, which inspired her to create a Japan meets America fried chicken restaurant with a focus on local ingredients and free range chicken.
Pikunico is open for lunch, dinner, and takeout daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Explore the Arts
Since it is the arts district after all, be sure to check out any FREE events they might be having to help ignite your left brain. Right now they are focusing on virtual events you can experience from home like photography and jewelry making classes.
In person events include pop-up workshops from the shops and seasonal events. I look forward to a full return to art installations like the VT Pro Design studio's captivating experience, Telestron. Originally created for the Day for Night Music Festival in Houston, this was the first time the robotics show had been shown in its hometown of Los Angeles. Lasting only 8 minutes, it imprinted the rest of my day and had me rethinking my idea of robots...
Is it Happy Hour yet?
Rappahannock Oyster Bar (try saying that 3 times fast...)helmed by Chef Nick Erven is open starting at 11 a.m. (noon weekdays) for lunch, dinner, and brunch; however it's the DAILY HAPPY HOUR from 4-6 p.m. that feels like the precious pearl. Currently, they are focusing their efforts on lunch, but once this place is back 100% it's one of the best deals.
Slurp up some fresh shellfish flown in daily from Virginia; or sip on a cocktail crafted by Author and Mixologist Hope Ewing.
If you find yourself at Row DTLA during brunch, the Lobster Roll is probably one of the tastiest in Los Angeles. Get ready to feast on massive chunks of lobster exploding off the sides of a perfectly toasted buttery roll.
Now it's time to round out your look
I told you this is lifestyle thing right? So be sure to check out one of the Lifestyle & Design retailers like KINTO, Poketo, or HIGHTIDE Store DTLA if you want your day to day items to look as good as you feel.
What's for Dinner
Japanese restaurant Hayato is yours for the "tock-ing" with Japanese bento boxes served on the weekends for pre-order at 12 and1:30 p.m.($52). Pre-COVID they were an intimate 10-seat tasting menu style for dinner reservations only. As with all the restaurants here there is the promise to return.
M.Georgina from Michelin-Starred chef Melissa Perello (Frances) opened to rave reviews from the L.A. Times. and offers Daily happy hour starting at 3 p.m. on Sundays as well as fantastic California-centric cuisine for dinner.
Although it's currently closed due to the pandemic, once they reopen I recommend trying a meal at the bar. There you can fully experience the wood-burning oven and dishes like the Grilled Squid Ink Pita pictured below.
While this information will be updated soon now that Los Angeles is in the yellow tier, you can rely on Rappahannock Oyster bar for dinner until 8 p.m.
