BLOWING ROCK (N.C.) -- The snowy mountains of North Carolina have not slowed down Tweetsie Railway. North Carolina's First Theme Park's opening day is April 8th. Construction crews are hard at work installing three new amusement rides.

Mini Swings are 12-seat models designed for children—12 Tweetsie locomotive motif. The ride's flying chair will thrill children between 4 and 5 years old. It will be located on Miner's Mountain next to the recently renovated playground.

"We are very excited to add three new rides this season – a mini swing; a spring ride drop tower; and a family spinning coaster," said Chris Robbins, President of Tweetsie Railroad. "The exact opening date of each ride is dependent upon the weather. But earth is being moved, concrete pads are being poured, and our goal is to have the rides ready for Guests at the opening in April or shortly afterward," he adds.

Tweetsie Railroad's famous Free Fall ride was discontinued at the end of last season. It is being replaced by a 12-seat spring ride, which is taller than its predecessor. . . It spins as it falls! The new drop tower, also manufactured in Italy by Moser's Rides, is nearly 50 feet tall. It will be in the same area of the Country Fair as the old drop ride. Here guests can enjoy a bird's-eye view of the Country Fair while climbing up and down the tower.

Tweetsie Railroad's third ride, a family-oriented spinning coaster, is being built on the ground above Country Fair. This figure-eight coaster is suitable for adults and children, as it can accommodate riders up to 36 inches tall. Robbins said that they asked SBFVisa to make the ride look like old oak barrels in order to match the Wild West theme of the park. They also gave us the appropriate name Barrels of Fun.
