I don't know about you but there is only one red line for me: a taco should be soft.

As long as the corn tortillas are soft, the type of the taco doesn't matter to me.

When it comes to tacos, there are a plethora of combinations and twists inspired by ingredients from all over the world. Despite the large range of tacos available today, there are a number of traditional tacos that you should try. From pork tacos like carnitas and al pastor to fish tacos and even vegetarian tacos, these Mexican tacos are full of flavor and tradition.

Tacos are one of Mexico's most common street foods, despite the fact that their exact origin is unknown.

However, nowadays, wherever we turn our head, there is a taco place. And, for a taco lover like me, it is very important to find a place that makes a great taco.

For all of these reasons, this wasn’t an easy list to make for me. However, here are the three best taco places in Los Angeles, based on taco lovers' recommendations.

1. Ave 26 Taco Stand

Ave 26 Taco Stand

Located in Ave 26 in Lincoln Heights, Ave 26 Taco Stand is a number one go-to taco place for locals. Although they're a taco stand, you can find a variety of meats such as cabeza, carne asada, al pastor... Moreover, the street has a few trucks and stands with churros, desserts, drinks, and stuff. And they're always playing music making it feel like a mini taco festival. Overall, the place is great to get authentic street tacos at a great price! If you don't come for the tacos, come for the experience.

Recommendations based on customer reviews:

  • The tacos are delicious, super flavorful, and tasty.
  • Three different kinds of salsa are available for self-serve.
  • You must try the potatoes! They are cooked in the same pot that the meat is cooked.
  • Their carne asada, pastor, and brisket are from another universe.

Price: On average, it's $20 - 25 for two people.

Location: Ave 26 & Humboldt St. Los Angeles, CA 90031

2. Tacos y Birria La Unica

Tacos y Birria La Unica

One of the best things about Tacos y Birria La Unica is that they're making their tacos with hand-made corn tortillas. The super popular taco truck in Boyle Heights is specialized in Birria de Chivo (Shredded Goat) and Birria de Res (Shredded Beef). And, they have 3 types of tacos: Regular Tacos, Tacos Dorados, and Quesatacos which is the most popular one. They also have quesadillas, mulitas, vampiros and ordenes de birria in a cup (goat/beef stew).

Recommendations based on customer reviews:

  • The carne asada meat is really good and is the only meat that comes with guacamole.
  • The salsas came with a variety of options, and the light red one was the spiciest.
  • These are some of the best tacos I've ever had. They have a crispy, cheese tortilla option which is delicious.

Price: On average, it's $20 - 25 for two people.
