Mount Bonnell. Austin, TexasMegan Markham/unslapsh

Mount Bonnell

I remember my first time here in Mount Bonnell, a Texas Historic Landmark and also a place that is listed in National Register of Historic places. I was totally blown away by the beauty of the lake and the houses. If you want to get the best view of Mount Bonnell, head to Covert Park at Mount Bonnell, which is a 5.1-acres historic linear park. The 775-foot-high outcrop here is considered as the highest spot in Austin. To reach the peak, you have to take 102 steps made of rocky limestone outcroppings. But you will be surrounded by a forested area of live oak tree, persimmon, juniper and Mount Laurel. This is really an easy walk, and you will be able to get the bird-eye view of the city, Lake Austin and the surrounding hills which is breathtaking.

The Bats from world famous Congress Bridge

This bridge is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Austin and the reason behind is beyond imagination. This Congress Avenue Bridge is in downtown Austin and around 1.5 million Mexican free-tail bats live there. You can say this bridge is the home for the bats which is the largest urban bat colony in North America. Around mid-March to early November, if you go to the bridge around one hour before sunset, the bar colony emerge from under the bridge, and they take over the sky for quite some time. This is an amazing sight which you will not find in any other city. But remember, this is seasonal. The bats fly to South for the winter. Check out the status of the bats and the timing of the sunset before you plan your visit. Try to be there at least 30 minutes to one hour early to get a good spot for watching the bats.

SoCo district

The name ‘SoCo’ stands for South Congress and located within 5 miles south of downtown Austin. This area playes quite a role in Austin mixed culture. You will not only be able to find shops that are mostly specialize in boutique or retro clothing, but also the eateries here are excellent. If you are planning to spend the day shopping, eating, and enjoying some live country music, go to SoCo district.

Sixth Street, Austin Texashttps://www.instagram.com/dreamcatcher_mahdi/

Sixth street

If you like the vibe of New Orleans Bourbon street, you will love sixth street. Your endeavor to find live music cannot be completed without a visit to Sixth street, which is the hub of Austin’s music scene since 1970. This is the center of the musical action in Austin. Not only music, but you will also find several live music joints, restaurants, shops, bars here. The environment is happy, lively and may get overrun by tourists. Go to Sixth street for some nighttime adventure and enjoy some happy time.

Lake Travis

One of my favorite places in Austin is Lake Travis. This 63.75-mile-long lake has over 271 miles of shoreline and maximus width is 4.5 miles. This lake is on of the most visited freshwater recreational vacation destination. On a beautiful sunny day, you can take a boat and enjoy a half or full day boat tour which will be soothing and relaxing. You can also zip over land and Lake Travis. Search for the local zipline adventures and I bet that will be quite an experience. One of the best viewpoints of Lake Travis is from the outdoor dock ‘Oasis’. Don’t believe me, check out for yourself. You will be amazed by the beauty of Lake Travis from Oasis.

Barton Springs Pool

Among the swimming holes, Barton Springs pool is the most favorite to the local. It is an ideal summer spot to cool off the summer heat. The source of this pool is the underground springs, and the water temperature stays between 68 to 70 degrees which is perfect for a summer outing.

Hamilton Pool

Within one hour of driving distance, Hamilton Pool is one of the places I would recommend visiting.

This pool is located less than a mile upstream from its confluence with the Pedernales River. The 50 foot waterfall, green blue water of the pool and the surrounding area everything is really amazing. But it’s really hard to get a reservation due to the high demand. If you want to visit this place, plan ahead and make reservation (here : Travis County Parks | Hamilton Pool Preserve (traviscountytx.gov)_as soon as possible.

I am a Civil Engineer by profession, a photographer by passion. Though currently I am residing in Louisiana, but the definition of home to me is quite different. I am originally from Bangladesh, a very small beautiful Asian country where I finished my bachelor’s degree and came to USA for higher studies. During my PhD year whenever I can, I used to travel. But one thing that changed my whole travel experience and how I see the world is taking pictures. Photography is a more powerful tool than one can imagine. hen you become a photographer, you see things that are not seen by others, you long to see places that may require a very long walk. Hiking, Camping became a part of travel plan since then and I appreciate more about life and nature now. I would like to share my experience and my vision with everyone in the form of a blog. I love what I do and really love to think that my work will bring joy and smile for others too. I think every picture tells a story. We just need to explore to find out the real story behind any picture. I will post the travel blogs where me, along with my wife will be sharing our travel stories, how we manage to travel cheap and how to cope with different things while traveling. We want to keep it simple because I know a thousand of people want to do the same thing but don’t know how. The main idea is to keep an open mind while traveling and accept whatever comes on the way.
