Last weekend was the Destination D23 event held in Orlando, Florida. There were a few new announcements regarding Walt Disney World:
Magic Kingdom
· A new castle hub show, ‘Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire,’ will begin in 2022 for the 50th anniversary of the Magic Kingdom and will feature a new, original song.
· The Festival of Fantasy parade will be returning to Magic Kingdom.
· Due to the popularity of the Disney cavalcade used throughout the year, a new ‘Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade’ will be making its debut at Magic Kingdom next year.
EPCOT
· A new restaurant called ‘Connections Café and Eatery’ will open in World Celebration, just behind Spaceship Earth.
· Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will finally open in summer 2022 at EPCOT.
· New renderings and a clip of the master sculptor creating a new statue of Walt Disney called ‘Dreamer’s Point’.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
· Fantasmic! has just been announced to return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2022 and will feature a new segment with Frozen, Aladdin and Moana.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
· Finding Nemo: The Big Blue and Beyond, the new replacement for Finding Nemo: The Musical, will be coming to the Theater in the Wild at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2022.
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
· The first live demonstration of Disney’s “real” lightsaber took place on stage with Disney Parks President Josh D’Amaro.
· Disney shared a sneak peek at what guests onboard can expect during the lightsaber and bridge training activities.
· We were introduced to a load of new characters coming to Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, and in particular the new character, Gaya, the Diva who will perform during dinner.
Other Walt Disney World News
· Imagineers behind Project Exo were invited out onstage to shake hands with Disney Parks President Josh D’Amaro and explain a little more about the project. Introducing a new wearable suit which could see characters like the Hulk, Wreck-it Ralph and Sully being introduced to the park.
· During the Magical Entertainment panel at today’s Destination D23, it was confirmed that cavalcades are here to stay.
Unfortunately, there weren't any 'big' announcements, but hopefully, this will be enough to keep fans happy!
