Homemade Tomato Puree
As you can read below, this recipe, which is very easy to make, can be an indispensable alternative. Making Tomato Paste (Boiling Version) Recipe
- 10 kg of tomatoes - around 22 lbs
- 1 kg of red bell peppers - around 2 lbs
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 1 cup of oil
- 6 glass jars
Wash all tomatoes and cut them randomly and place in a large pot. Wash red peppers, remove the seeds and cut them randomly, add them into the pot. They are cooked for about 1 hour until they become soft, stirring occasionally. Let them a few minutes to cool down a little then place them into the blender, and blend for 2-3 minutes.
Use a large hole strainer and place back the mixture thru the strainer into the pot. This helps separate skin and seeds.
Put the strained tomatoes on the stove, add salt, oil.
Mix and cook for about 2 hours until it thickens.
Be careful, at this stage, it splashes and burns a lot while boiling. I protect myself by closing the lid of the pot halfway.
If it is difficult to boil until it thickens, you can put it in a cheesecloth and strain it, then bake it in the oven.
After boiling it, I put it in hot jars and turned it upside down. This helps the vacuum and sealed the jar.
Then I store it in a cool place out of the sun.
Tip: If the jar is opened and used by pouring oil on it when it will be used, we will prevent it from molding and spoiling.
Once you make it, you will not be able to use store-bought tomato paste again, for sure.
