(BOURNE, MA) The Bourne Historical Society has announced the return of Wampanoag Day at Aptucxet, an annual event that honors indigenous identity and culture.
This highly anticipated celebration promises to be a day filled with traditional Wampanoag arts, live performances, and culture. According to a flyer shared by Wampanoag Nation on Facebook, some of the activities at Wampanoag Day 2023 will include a performance by Native Musical Artist Michelle St. John at 12 pm and a performance by Wampanoag Nation Singers and Dancers at 2 pm, in addition to:
- Free Museum tours
- New Pow Wow Princess
- 50/50 raffle
- Native vendors
- Several Wampum vendors
- Painting key chains
- Corn Husk Figures
- Native cooking by fire
The festival flyer also explains that admission is $5, and that Native people in regalia will be admitted free.
All are welcome to join the Wampanoag community, rain or shine, at the Aptucxet Museum Complex on September 23, 2023, from 11 am to 3 pm for Wampanoag Day. This annual event is a reminder of the importance of preserving and honoring indigenous culture for generations to come.
