The New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill has unveiled a vibrant and imaginative exhibition that celebrates the beauty of nature and is inspired by the wonders of the plant world.
The new exhibition, "CHIAOZZA: A Sculpture Exhibition", showcases the work of Brooklyn-based artists Adam Frezza and Terri Chiao, who previously created a 32-sculpture installation at the Coachella Art & Music Festival in 2017. Now, their work is taking over the stunning botanical garden, which first opened its doors in 1986 and sits on 171 acres of land.
The new exhibition consists of ten multicolored, bright sculptures that mimic the curious shapes found throughout nature, from grafted trees to shrubs. The sculptures, which are made from painted paper pulp and set on white pedestals, are meant to not just remind you of nature, but inspire you to connect with it.
According to Frezza and Chiao,
“We approached this exhibition with the idea of an art walk in mind. We want to encourage people to wander through the landscape and happen upon something that might evoke a sense of wonder, play, contemplation, connection, or peacefulness."
In addition to the outdoor displays, smaller sculptures, wall works, and a short film created by the artists will be on view in the Milton Gallery located in the Garden’s Visitors Center. For guests looking for a special way to experience the exhibition, Frezza and Chiao will be on site to lead an art walk and talk Saturday, June 24, 2023.
The new exhibition, "CHIAOZZA: A Sculpture Exhibition" will be available to view from June 1, 2023, to October 15, 2023.
