(HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS) The largest Memorial Day weekend event in New England, Troops in the Spotlight, is celebrating its 19th year. The event honors and supports Fallen Heroes and their Gold Star Families, as well as showing support for deployed troops, veterans, and wounded warriors. To help them celebrate this day, a local transportation business is helping make the event more affordable and accessible for those it commemorates.
CapeFLYER, a train service that runs from Boston to Cape Cod, has revealed that they've partnered with Cape Cod Cares for the Troops to provide free transportation for veterans and active military, along with a guest, on May 28th. The free round-trip transportation is available from Boston's South Station and will take attendees to the 19th Annual Troops in the Spotlight event.
The family-friendly day offers a range of activities. From meet and greets with members of the military and creating video messages to deployed troops to making cards for a care package, this is a day celebrating community and honoring those who defend our communities. The twelve-and-a-half-hour day will be filled with events, including:
- 11:30 am: Opening Ceremony - Honoring our Gold Star Families and Veterans
- Noon: Military members take the stage and stand at attention in one-hour shifts for 12 hours
- Noon - 2 pm: Lunch with Ken Foster and the X-Grill
- 3:00 pm: Parade and Honor Ceremony for Vietnam Veterans (all Vietnam Veterans are invited to participate)
- Midnight: Closing Ceremony with the Flag Lowering for the official start of Memorial Day.
The 2023 Troops in the Spotlight will take place on Sunday, May 28th, at the Capetown Plaza Route 132, Hyannis, MA. The opening ceremony begins at 11:30 am, and the day-long event runs until midnight.
