(BOURNE, MASSACHUSETTS) The Massachusetts State Police posted a public announcement on Tuesday, March 21st, via social media about an accident that occurred at the Bourne Rotary earlier in the day, but that was still affecting traffic. The post stated:
“Cleanup is ongoing at the Bourne Rotary, where a tractor-trailer hauling gravel rolled over after a crash involving a van this morning. One lane of Route 28 north heading into the circle is closed, and clean up work is expected to last a few hours. Both drivers suffered possible minor injuries.”
How Old is Bourne's Rotary?
The town of Bourne, located on Cape Cod, is known for being the youngest town in the region. It was separated from the Town of Sandwich and incorporated in the year 1884. One of the most notable landmarks in Bourne is the Bourne Bridge and rotary, which opened in the 1930s.
While the rotary has been a point of contention for some drivers due to its unique design, one local driver has compared it to the rotaries commonly found in Europe, stating:
“You're definitely taking your life in your hands on some occasions, but you've got to do what they do in Europe and just anticipate.”
