Fun Things to Do in Hawaii With Mom

When you think of an exotic tropical vacation on the beach in the United States, chances you’ve got the Islands of Aloha on your list.

And you know Mom (or Grandma) and everyone has Hawaii on their list too. Hawaii offers so many adventures and things to do.

Each of its six major islands (Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui, and the islands of Hawaii) offer their own distinct personality, adventures, activities, and sights.

We have narrowed the list down to these activities Mom will love in Hawaii.

Spend a Day at the Spa

Your mom works hard every day, so why not take some time while you’re in Hawaii together to allow her to relax all of her cares away? Hawaiian style!

Check out the state’s many luxurious spas so Mom can restore her body and mind and recharge her batteries.

Go Snorkeling

Does your mother love to swim? Does she enjoy getting beneath the waves to check out the beautiful sea life that thrives in warm, tropical waters?

Then definitely head off to one of the many amazing and unforgettable snorkeling locations that are found throughout Hawaii.

Catch glimpses of a variety of fish, and maybe even see a magnificent sea turtle.

Bring an underwater camera to capture the experience.

Get Some Exercise with a Hike

Active moms will really enjoy heading out onto Hawaii’s many fantastic trails. There are many easy hikes to take with your mother.

Enjoy a quiet picnic surrounded by the beauty of nature and the local wildlife.

Trek into a rainforest teeming with animals and plants.

Breathe in the air that will awaken your whole body.

Take in breathtaking views of incredible waterfalls.

Maui waterfalls are some of the best in the world and definitely tops my list for hiking adventures.

Enjoy a Relaxing Day at the Beach

In addition to a day at a Hawaiian spa, your mom will also probably enjoy simply lounging on one of Hawaii’s many fabulous beaches, including Napili Kai Beach Resort -- one of my favorites.

The sunshine above, the waves crashing on the shore, a yummy picnic, and maybe a refreshing cocktail could all come together to make the perfect combination for fun in the sun.

So go ahead and plan a relaxing day at the beach to enjoy together.

Spend a few minutes in the clear, warm water of Hawaii while you’re there so you can cool off.

Shopping and Dining

What Mom doesn’t love shopping and dining?

Check out Waikiki for some of the best retailers, ranging from affordable spots to high-end shops. Browse or purchase some goodies to take home with her.

Take some time to taste Hawaii with its many diverse restaurants located throughout Hawaii.

Pamper mom with a 5-star dinner at the end of a long day of exploring together, such as dining at one of the many restaurants at Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui.

Sunset Dinner Cruise

When in Hawaii, a must for Mom is a sunset dinner cruise.

It's the perfect end to any evening, dining on a traditional Hawaiian-buffet, listening to live music, and, if you're lucky, you'll even catch glimpses of the marine life.

On a recent multigenerational family vacation to the Big Island, our sunset cruise on the 12-mile Kona coast included sightings of dolphins and a whale.

Outrigger Canoe

Riding the waves in an outrigger canoe is perhaps one of the most quintessential Hawaiian experiences you can give Mom. As the Aloha State's official team sport, outrigger canoeing also gives a nod to the history of Hawaii and its respect for the ocean.

Ziplining Adventure in Hawaii

Maybe Mom is more of an adventurer? How about Umauma Falls Ziplining on the Big Island of Hawaii?

Soaring over two miles of tropical river gorges, the ziplining course includes eight lines and is fun for all ages.

And you'll soar over 160 feet above waterfalls.

Go Parasailing

For Mom, the adventurer, take in the views of the Hawaiian islands by soaring up to 1,000 feet in the air. Parasailing in Oahu gifts Mom with views of Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach, and the Ko'olau Mountains.

These are only some of the many fun things to do in Hawaii.

But with these tips, plan the trip of a lifetime with Mom. And it will be one that you will both cherish forever.
