A Christmas Norwegian commercial just went viral on the internet and divided the world in 2.
Christmas commercials are already out. Companies use Santa Claus and the magic of Christmas to promote their products or spread their message.
This is what Posten, Norway’s postal service, did.
Posten didn't just promote their offered services, they spread a message that's not related to Christmas or even to their business. Posten showcased Santa Claus in a way nobody has before.
On November, 22 they released their Christmas commercial. The ad quickly went viral and reached people from all around the world.
The commercial tells the story of a man who catches Santa Claus as he puts on his Christmas presents. For both of them is love at first sight. Years go by, and every year Santa visits the man, only on Christmas day. Sad because of the situation, the man writes a letter to Santa, saying: "Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas is you". Santa asks for the help of a Prosten to deliver the gifts so that he can fulfill the man's wish, and be with him. The final scene is with the man and Santa Claus kissing.
The ad is very emotional, from the music playing in the background to videography. The music playing in the background is a religious one. There is even a shot taken in the church.
The campaign marks the 50th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Norway and Posten’s advocacy to a diverse workplace.
In 1972, same-sex sexual activity became legal in Norway. In 2009, same-sex marriages became legal.
The main religion in Norway is Lutheran Christianity, 68.7% of the population belonging to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Norway in 2019.
In 2016, Norway’s Lutheran Church has voted in favor of allowing same-sex marriage.
Some people loved it while others hated it. Most of the people who saw the ad went and express their opinion in the comment section of Twitter posts about the commercial.
Last year, Posten shocked the world for the first time
