NASHVILLE, TN - The Tennessee Titans have concluded their week-long road trip to Tampa Bay with a win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 34-3 in the second week of the preseason on Saturday. The game was an important one for two of the team's newest additions to the roster, rookie cornerbacks Caleb Farley and Elijah Molden.
Farley and Molden took the field side-by-side on Saturday as they both playing in their first NFL game in the Titans jersey. For Farley, he played in his first football game since 2019, after he had a back injury and opted out from the 2020 college football season. Last week, he traveled to Atlanta with the team but didn't suit up against the Atlanta Falcons.
For the first-round draft pick out of Virginia Tech, the moment he stepped on the field was an emotional one. "It's been since 2019 since I played in a football game, so it was an incredibly special, emotional moment for me," Farley said. He played fewer defensive snaps than Molden in the game, but for him, it was a good start that he needed. "I am trying to put winning football on tape for this organization. I am focused on getting better."
But Saturday night was Elijah Molden's night. The third-round pick proved to the world that the Titans got a steal in the 2021 NFL Draft. Molden recorded eight tackles, one sack, one pass defended, two tackles for loss, and one forced fumble.
Praise for Molden was coming from everywhere. In his interview, Farley also acknowledged Molden's big game. "I want to give a shout-out to my fellow rookie brother Elijah Molden. I feel like he was out there ballin' and locked in," Farley said. Another one came from veteran NFL defensive back Tyrann Mathieu of the Kansas City Chiefs. On his Twitter, he tweeted "People will regret not drafting him sooner, real football guy."
