NASHVILLE, TN — Besides being known as the Music City, Nashville is also known for its hot chicken. There're plenty of places to get your Nashville hot chicken around the Nashville area. Do you know, you can actually make your own version of Nashville hot chicken. Follow along the recipe to make your own version of Nashville hot chicken inspired by Hattie B's.

This recipe is by Bon Appétit and enough for eight servings.

For making the hot chicken, you need:

2 4lb chickens, cut into 10 pieces

1 tbs black pepper

2 tbs salt and 4 tsp kosher salt

4 large eggs

2 cups buttermilk or whole milk

2 tbs of vinegar-based hot sauce

4 cups all-purpose flour

6 tbs cayenne pepper

2 tbs dark brown sugar

1 tsp each of chili powder, garlic powder and paprika

Vegetable oil for deep frying the chicken

First, seasoned the chicken in black pepper and salt, then chill the chicken for at least three hours. Next, get two separate bowls, one for mixing together eggs, buttermilk, and hot sauce; the other for flour and salt.

Set up a Dutch oven and deep-fry thermometer, pour oil in, and heat over medium-high heat until the thermometer is at 325°. Then, take the chicken out and pat dry each chicken, put each chicken in the flour mixture, and dip in the buttermilk mixture. Last, dredge the chicken in the flour mixture and place it on a baking sheet.

Next, fry the chicken until skin is deep golden brown and crispy, transfer to a clean wire rack set inside a baking sheet.

Take another bowl, whisk together cayenne, brown sugar, chili powder, garlic powder, paprika with one cup of frying oil. The last step is to brush fried chicken with the spicy oil mixture.

Your Nashville hot chicken is ready! You can serve it with bread and pickles or eat the chicken alone. Enjoy!
