NASHVILLE, TN — The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority’s Airport Communications Center is undertaking a rigorous evaluation to retain its certification as part of a voluntary procedure to obtain reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc, or CALEA.
The evaluation procedure includes a chance for agency staff and community members to offer feedback by calling 615-275-4312 between 10 a.m. and noon on August 10, 2021. Telephone comments are restricted to 10 minutes in length and must address the agency’s capacity to meet CALEA standards.
A virtual session is also available from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on August 10. You can also send written comments to CALEA, 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia 20155. Contact Caleb Gearing at 615-275-1662 for a copy of the standards or information on participating in the virtual session.
CALEA was founded in 1979 by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the National Sheriffs Association (NSA), the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF). CALEA’s mission is to enhance the delivery of public safety services, mainly through maintaining a set of standards created by public safety professionals.
CALEA focuses on enhancing public safety service quality by, among other things, maintaining a body of standards developed by public safety practitioners that cover a wide range of current public safety initiatives, establishing and administering an accreditation process and recognizing professional excellence.
The accreditation scheme requires the MNAA’s Communication Center to meet requirements in four areas: policy and procedures, administration, operation and support services.
