NASHVILLE, TN — Major League Soccer's Nashville Soccer Club announced today the contract extension of forward Jhonder Cádiz for the remainder of the 2021 MLS Season.

Cádiz was initially brought in on loan by Nashville SC from Portuguese club S.L. Benfica as one of the club's Designated Player back in September 2020.

Since joining Nashville SC, Cádiz has appeared in 17 matches for the Boys in Gold in all competitions. With Cádiz on the field, Nashville won eight games, lost two, and drawn eight. They also undefeated when Cádiz scores a goal, and thus far, the 6'3 striker has registered two goals and an assist in 380 minutes.

Mike Jacobs, Nashville SC's General Manager, said that Cádiz produced positive signs on and off the field during his time with Nashville, which is why Nashville SC extended his loan stint.

The 25-year-old forward was instrumental in Nashville's run in the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. Cádiz started in all three playoff matches as Nashville reaches MLS Eastern Conference Semifinals before losing to the eventual champion Columbus Crew.

Before arriving in Music City, Cádiz spent time with S.L. Benfica before going on loan to Dijon FCO in Ligue 1 back in 2019. While in France, Cádiz became the fifth Venezuelan player to score in Ligue 1 over the past 50 seasons, when he netted the winning brace in a 2-1 victory over Paris Saint Germain on Nov. 2, 2019.

At the international level, Cádiz has made four appearances for the Venezuelan National Team. The striker's debut came on Oct. 16, 2018, in a 2-0 victory over the United Arab Emirates. Before competing in the Copa América 2021, Cádiz appeared in two matches during Word Cup Qualifications on June 3 and 9.

Cádiz didn't appear at Copa América 2021 in Brazil as he backed up team captain Fernando Aristigueta. La Vinontinto finished at the bottom of the group stage and was out of the competition early after accumulating only two points out of four matches.
