Seventh Walk-Off Win in 2021 for Nashville Sounds; Alec Bettinger Matches Career-High Strikeouts

NASHVILLE, TN — The Nashville Sounds ended the game against the Louisville Bats with a 2-1 win, but not without any drama in the end. They walked it off in the bottom of the 10th inning, with a sacrifice fly from Tim Lopes to drive in the final run of the game.

The Sounds earned their 38th win of the season, as they take game 1 of a six-game series against Louisville.

Entering the bottom of the tents inning, the score was tied at 1-1. The extra-inning rule was applied, Cooper Hummel to start as the base-runner from the second base. Lopes came into the at-bat with a 1-out situation, runner on first and third base.

He hit the 0-1 pitch to the right side of the field, deep enough for Hummel to tag and score the winning run, and gave the Sounds their seventh walk-off win in 2021.

It was a night to remember for Nashville's starting pitcher, Alec Bettinger. On his 26th birthday, the MLB prospect showed a dominant outing against the Bats, striking out 12 batters to match his career-high number.

Bettinger only allowed five hits, zero walks, and no runs in 6 innings that he pitched. Bettinger's 12 strikeouts game was the third double-digit strikeout by a Nashville pitcher this season, after Eric Lauer and Aaron Ashby with 12 and 11 strikeouts in a game respectively.

The Sounds win game 1 of a six-game series against this Louisville side. Game 2 is scheduled to be on Wednesday night at First Horizon Park. Left-handed pitcher Blaine Hardy (2-4, 4.24 ERA) is set to start against Riley O' Brien (4-3, 4.70 ERA).
