The Family Collective's June 'Lunch and Learn' free courses

NASHVILLE, TN — United Way of Greater Nashville’s The Family Collective or TFC will be hosting two’ Lunch and Learn’ programs this June.

The ‘Lunch and Learn’ series is a 60 to 90 minutes online presentation that discusses various themes from the TFC Training Program’s Training Bundle and Elective options.

The first one is Juneteenth Training and Celebration. This course will explain the essential history of June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were told of the Emancipation Proclamation after two years it was issued, which marked the end of slavery for African Americans. This event will also celebrate and commemorate the Juneteenth event.

Two presenters will drive the discussion. The first one is Dr. Ebonys Mead, a clinical Instructor in the Birth to Kindergarten teacher education program at Georgia Southern University. She is also the president of the Educational Equity Institute. She devotes herself to promote equitable programs in early childhood.

The second one is Dr. Jen Naitzel, the Executive Director of the Educational Equity Institute. Educational Equity Institute focuses on removing the gaps and barriers to education and opportunities in communities through level changes. She is also the author of Achieving Equity and Justice in Education through the Work of Systems Change book.

The Juneteenth Training and Celebration will be hosted by TFC on June 16, 2021, from 11.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The second program is LGBTQ+ 101 & Supporting LGBTQ+ Clients. The program is a celebration of June’s Pride Month, introducing LGBTQ+ topics such as gender and sexual orientation, identity, pronouns, and terminology. The discussion will also learn about LGBTQ+ issues that have to be faced by the community and how citizens can make and maintain a friendly, safe, and supportive environment for the LGBTQ+ community.

The presenter of this event will be Michelle Sciarappa. As a nonbinary, they are an LGBTQ+ program facilitator, and they have 15 years of experience in the field. They are also the Co-Founder of the Nashville Gender & Sexuality Alliance.

The LGBTQ+ 101 & Supporting LGBTQ+ Clients will be hosted by The Family Collective on June 29, 2021, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
